Occhio Bowl

$52.00

The Occhio bowl is made using an Italian “Pineapple” Optic Mold, which is categorized by its pinecone geometric resemblance. This Particular mold that we use is over a century old and came from a glassblowing workshop in Tuscany that made chandeliers and wine bottles, among other things. The shape of this classic Italian optic mold is inspired by the pineal gland as rendered by the Roman Catholic Church. The Pineal gland, also referred to as the ‘third eye” is a gland that resides in the frontal cortex of your brain and regulates circadian rhythms. This gland has been thought of by many cultures as the biological center of enlightenment. Our name for this series “Occhio” also references another Tuscan native: “Pinocchio”. The name “Pinocchio” or “pine eye” refers to the eye of the pine coming to life as Pinocchio did in the classic tale. Pinocchio is from Tuscany, as is the mold we used to create this Occhio vessel series.

Each bowl is completely hand blown and hand opened after receiving its signature texture in the first steps of formation. These bowls are best suited for cold meals and snacks like yogurt, cereal and ice cream - though we use them daily at the studio for rice which is a very nice pairing.

Dimensions: 5 1/2” width x 3” height
